A UK independent holiday cottage provider has quizzed mum bloggers from all over Britain to see where they think are the best places to visit on a Cornwall family holiday. Forty parent bloggers took part in the poll, taking into account the many beaches, seaside attractions, educational day trips and natural wonders the county has to offer.
The respondents were asked to describe Cornwall in five words, and with ‘relaxing’, ‘beautiful’, ‘fun’, ‘family-friendly’ and ‘picturesque’ all ranking high on the poll, it’s easy to see why Cornwall remains one of the top staycation destinations in Britain.
The families who took part in the survey, carried out by Sykes Holiday Cottages (https://www.sykescottages.co.uk), have collectively holidayed in Cornwall more than one hundred times, which means the results are tried, tested and definitely child-friendly!
St Ives
The survey saw 50% of respondents put this fishing port down as their number one spot to visit when in Cornwall. Through the cobbled streets and past the whitewashed houses to the pearl sands and aquamarine waters of the beach, St Ives provides the perfect beach holiday for families.
Kelly Allen of the Kelly Allen Writer blog, who has visited Cornwall with her two children three times, urges visitors to check out the town. “I love to explore hidden beaches and I think St Ives is just one of those must-see areas.”
Newquay
If you want a traditional beach holiday for children in Cornwall, head to Newquay, which the Cornish holiday experts voted for in spades. Newquay Zoo was rated highly as a great day out for the family.
Eden Project
This global garden, which has been dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World, can be found in Bodelva, not far from St Austell, and came a close third in the poll.
Amy Walsh of the Cocktails in Teacups mummy blog, has travelled to Cornwall twice with her little one and recommends the Eden Project as “it appeals to all ages and has great kids’ activities.”
Bude
Not far from the border of Devon, there’s a lot to love about this award-winning seaside town. With tonnes of activities, from outdoor theatre to animal parks, there’s something for everyone.
A few hours on a Bude beach is a must – Crooklets Beach, Widemouth Bay Beach and Summerleaze Beach are three favourites to paddle, build sandcastles and take in the incredible views.
Tintagel
Further down the coast from Bude lies Tintagel, a place entwined in legend and myth, with Tintagel Castle said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.
Mel Trudgett, the owner of frugal mummy blog Mel’s Money Mindset, recommends Merlin’s Cave, located beneath Tintagel Castle, as a place of adventure and imagination for kids of all ages and “worth the very steep climb back up the hill!”

Mousehole
Located on the south coast, Mousehole is quintessentially Cornish, with a cluster of cobbled narrow streets and stone houses overlooking a picturesque half-moon beach. Have lunch by the harbour, go on a cruise and walk around the charming selection of shops, the quaint and cute Mousehole is well worth checking out.
Tin Mines
Tin mining was once Cornwall’s biggest and oldest industry. But some of the once defunct mines have now opened to the public to unearth their stories from generations past. Go underground for a great day out at Poldark and Geevor Tin Mines.
St Michaels Mount
For a unique day out, take a trip to St Michael’s Mount, an island off the south coast of Cornwall. Travel to the town of Marazion and walk across the man-made causeway to explore this charming corner of Cornwall.
Port Isaac
A gem on the north coast of Cornwall, Port Isaac has a picture perfect quality that makes it a perfect setting for a Cornish family holiday. With an abundance of independent shops, delicious cream teas and a thriving music scene, Port Isaac (which is also the setting for ITV’s Doc Martin) has a place in many of our Cornwall holiday experts’ hearts.
Crantock
On the north coast of Cornwall, not far from Newquay lies the ancient coastal town of Crantock. Visit Polly Joke beach, pose for photos by the village stocks and check out the sand dunes by the shore.
Vickie Hairsine, of The Hairsine Family mum influencer Instagram account, travels to Cornwall every year with her five kids. “Definitely Crantock!” she said: “The village itself is beautiful and the post office sells amazing pasties! The beach has two car parks, clean toilets and lifeguards. The beach itself is stunning and the river is great fun for kids to play in.”
